Pet Taunt Lowering DPS

A while ago someone in my guild chat was insisting that mage pets did more DPS if you turned off their taunt. Is this the case? Exactly what form does it take? At what level does it start? Does it apply to necro pets as well?

Don't listen to them they're crazy!

Pet will do more dps if he is behind the mob, nothing to do with agro and everything to do with positioning but yeah if he has agro then technically he is doing "less" dps.

What I heard was that turning off pet taunt would either let the pet get an extra attack in when it would usually be taunting, or let the pet quad hit. It definitely wasn't some technicality like the pet being behind the mob.

This would be about the easiest thing in the world to test, would take maybe half an hour or parsing, if you're worried.

I don't have a high level pet class. I'm interested in the input of people who have knowledge and experience with mages and necros.

I have a 31 mage and my pet quite frequently quads. And when he taunts, he taunts between attacks, yet it does not interrupt the time varience between attacks. Its an instant cast skill for tanks and seems to be the same with pet taunt.

Encouraged by this I put up a "Pet Guide" on the wiki:

http://moestaverne.com/p1999wiki/index.php/Pet_Guide

could use more details specific to p1999, and also verification of pet stats here.

Sounds like one of those old EQ tales like the dragon in Ak'Anon...

I've never seen pet taunt affect attack speed or frequency.

I heard selos was slower after this patch~

*you would think that the EQ myths thing would just die*
