Monk gear question (no twink)

Hey guys,

I've started playing on P99 a couple of weeks ago. First tried Shaman, then enchanter. But I've gone back to the Monk class (human) I played and loved back in the days of Kunark when I originally started playing.

A friendly Bard who passed through the Qeynos Hills gave me some cured silk armor, and I used the cash I made with my previous characters to purchase two Wu's Trance Sticks. I bought Iksar Scaled Gloves very cheap from another friendly Monk who was passing through the area so I could use my special attacks on the Wisps. I bought a pair of Platinum Fire Wedding Rings and I am trying to buy a Wu's Quivering Staff (just hit level 20).

After I buy the Staff I hope to be left with about 150 platinum. I've got a couple of slots that still have cloth armor. (Wrists x2, waist and face) I want to replace those at least. I'm hoping to get some cured silk for those. But I've had no luck finding a tailor that could make it. Not even when providing Silk.
Long story. Now the question. What tips do you guys have on what equipment I should be focusing on next?

Any advice is appreciated.

With regards,
Holiax

You should be focusing 100% on getting to level 60. You wont be able to buy any gear that will make a substantial difference for you character with the platinum amounts you have.

Regardless,
Try to find a haste item --> Flowing Black Silk Sash
Try to find a regeneration item --> Fungus Covered Scale Tunic

If you cannot afford these two items, then I suggest you focus on getting 60.

You're on the right track. My wife and I just started on P99 3 months ago and she plays a monk (I'm a shaman). Under level 20, Wu's sticks were our first purchase. We also bought a full set of cured silk armor. Around level 20-25, 500pp went into a pair of 5/55's rings. I also think at level 20 she used a Wu's staff. However, by level 30 we had saved up about 3k and bought a Peacebringer.

Dalnir is hard, but around level 40 we farmed all six crescent pieces and replaced some of that cured silk. Don't worry about magic gloves - it's magic boots you really want, after level 25 all you'll use is flying kick. She didn't have magic boots until crescent boots.

Around level 45, we saved up enough to buy a Sash of the Dragonborn for haste. Now at level 53, she just replaced peacebringer with Adamantite Club and SoS. Fungi is out of reach for a long long time.

I'm a tailor so if you need a few final pieces of cured silk send me a tell in game. No charge.

Invest a little time in tailoring and make your own armor. All of my casters can make their own raw silk armor.

After basic weapons, I would focus on getting a haste item. Unfortunately they're kind of pricey. Now that the silver chitin wraps came out with Velious, I would try for those, or the Flowing Black Silk Sash, which should be a little cheaper.

The difference between having haste and not having haste is pretty substantial. It's not an absolute requirement, but if you're looking for what to aim for next, haste will be a huge upgrade.

Another option for a free haste item is the Hangman's Noose that can drop while people are camping the Seb key cycle in TT. Just make sure your FD is maxed and reliable.

Thank you all for the advice. The haste item is something to work for. Guess I'm just gonna be saving my cold hard cash.
I'm not in a particular rush to hit 60. When you say focus 100% on getting to 60 it starts sounding like a job.
Now I only have to find someone to sell me the Wu's Quivering Staff. Been hanging out in the tunnel the past two days to no avail.

All Florid means is that any item that can actually make a difference for you is 100% out of reach at this particular time, so if you are looking for real advice on how to progress, then you need to level. If you enjoy playing the game and making small gains (I love to do this, took me 1 year to hit lvl 60 on my monk) then do whatever you want. But getting levels is the only way for high end camps to open up. Wants a FBSS? well at 60 you can easily camp the guy and get it for free. Want a Fungi? At level 60 you can get into any King group that needs a puller or DPS. At 46 + you can do Planar runs, ect. I made 90k last week in <10 hours of play time - this is only possible when you are near the top end of levels.

And hoenstly the best top end gear is free - Get 50+ and get Kael armor drops, then go to Velks and farm spiders and dogs for gems - can get in top end gear completely free if you put in the time to level.
