Volkswagen had software that detected when emissions were being tested and subsequently gimped the motor so that emissions were within regulations. After testing was finished it reverted back to a higher pollution rate.

I'm sure it's not bad either way. But most new diesels require some crazy expensive air scrubbing technology that would force small diesel cars to be too expensive and heavy. Federal government might or already has issued a mandatory recall. Making the unrecalled vehicles desireble because they will get better fuel economy and horsepower/torque

I think it's too new for the federal government to already come to a decision. But Volkswagen CEO is already gone. So it's a pretty big deal. They have been forging emissions tests since 2008 so there are just millions of these things on the road.

Also a lot of the customers were "eco-friendly" so lots of passed off costumers.

I can't say of the value of the cars will go up because they are unique and not lame. Or if it will go down because of a mass hippie sell off. But might be a good time to buy or sell them regardless =D
