new cheap graphics card tips??

I have been having system problems recently which seem to have come to head today, im pretty sure its my graphics card thats fried (nvidia 8800 gts) as i was getting wonky graphics and driver kept reseting and recovering, ive managed to get my system running stable after noticing one of my front case fans wasnt working (swithced the plug thingy for said fan and seems to run ok now) however i now have dark blue lines all down my screen.

Can anyone more computer savy than me recommend any good cheapish graphics cards? i mostly play eq which is why i dont really wanna splash out. but sometimes play some of the newer games.

Thanks.

Going any cheaper than that, and you are shooting yourself in the foot.

i got a used (perfectly functional) gts 250 lying around if u want to buy it? just upgraded to dual 460's in SLI. played most modern games, but wont be playing them on high settings by any stretch of the imagination. all the source games (hl2, counterstrike source, etc.) are super smooth on high settings, however, starcraft 2 should be played on medium or low depending on screen resolution.

oh, and itll blow EQ out of the water lol :)

thanks mrgoochio, the link rottening posted looks good and isnt to expensice so may go with that, any other ideas appreciated :) im not that well up on computers anymore so would pcie2 be compatible? my motherboard box says pci express on it :)

PCI-E 2.0 cards are backwards compatible with 1.0 motherboards, if indeed your motherboard is a 1.0. Most lower-end PCI-E 2.0 cards (this one included) doesn't have the bandwidth to fully utilize the 2.0 increase, anyway.

No worries there.

you shouldn't have any problems as rottening said.. just wanted to throw the option out there for my old card. just upgraded as i said and didn't really think about what i'd do with the old one.

Look up the 9800 GTX Nvidia card. Had it for years, runs like a champ still. It ran Final Fantasy 14 (crazy intense graphics, google it) at max graphics with minimal lag.

I would easily recommend this card to anyone looking for a price-is-right card.

Agreed. I used this card for a little over 2 years and loved it. Really, IMO, it can't be beat for the price.

Set a budget for us, so we're not just grasping straws.

May I recommend this?
