Iksar Warrior gearing help
Hello, all. Ever since I started my first character on the server I knew that eventually I wanted to play an Iksar Warrior. I'm basically a p99 newb with very little knowledge about gearing characters, and I heard that warriors were quite gear dependent, so I made other classes (enchanter and now druid) to farm some plat for gear first.
Over the past month or so, I've farmed up about ~4k plat, and though it'd be awesome to keep farming until I can afford things for my warrior like the Fungi Tunic, I've been strongly considering just using the money I have now, and getting started on the character I'd really like to be playing. I'd like to get gear for my level 1 that won't need to be replaced until much later on in the character's life. I also cannot afford more than ~4k total (willing to farm plat for a bit longer if there's gear that is worth it) Here are a few questions I have: - Can anyone provide me with a theoretical "Best in Slot" list for an Iksar Warrior twink? - Is anyone currently in possession of and willing to sell a set of gear for an Iksar Warrior twink worth ~4k or less? -What do folks think of the Warrior entry of the 1k twink wiki page (http://wiki.project1999.com/Ravager'...uide#Warrior)? How many levels will it take for this set to become obsolete? Is this a better option than buying better gear for more plat from the start? - For weapons, would it be better to go with SSoY from the start (using 1 with a shield or a Sarnak Warhammer until I can dual wield, when I would use 2x SSoY), or go with some combination of Obsidian Shards, Green Jade Broadswords, etc? - Lastly, if you were going to spend around 4k plat on an Ikky Warrior alt, what pieces would you buy? Any help is greatly appreciated, and sorry for the long post :D |
Since you've poked around the wiki, I wanted to direct your attention to something you may have missed.
http://wiki.project1999.com/Category:Warrior_Equipment The links at the top of the page link to a sortable list of all the available gear for warriors sortable by AC/HP/Whatever. As an iksar you'll have to take a closer look to make sure you can wear the gear. Best bet is probably to sort by either AC or HP, scroll down till you find the piece that matches your budget/ability to farm and add it to your list. Warriors are really hard to gear on this server because they should be groups (must group?) and you're going to be competing for aggro with twinked out monks rogues and rangers. Without a similar level of twinking, you'll find that you're more often than not in a DPS role while the fungi monk tanks. With that in mind, SSoY seems kind of expensive considering it doesn't proc until 37. So you're using an expensive sub-par ratiowise weapon 1-37 when you could just be using a Green Jade Broadsword. If I only had 4k, I wouldn't twink a warrior, nevermind an iksar warrior. I would save up more money. Don't have to get a Fungi or anything, but Incarnadine are cheap now, except you're an iksar so nevermind. Hmm. |
For 4k I'd focus on a couple of weapons that can help you hold aggro, and see if you can quest some of the iksar warrior armor.

Question of my own: What are good twink proc items for warriors?
The wiki is awesome, but it doesn't say how much aggro a particular proc is that I've found. Does Velium Shards generate real aggro such that its worth it to grab a weapon that procs it or is it just for fun? |
Quote:
2x Orc fang earrings: ~400p 2x Platinum/Velium fire wedding rings: ~500p/1kp 2x Obsidian Shard: ~100p, to use until 30 when you switch to 2x Scorpikis Claw Impaler: ~600p Runed Oak Bow: ~250p. Leaves you with ~1.5kp left over to save/put towards other gear. Poor Iksars don't have the easy route of Crustacean shell armor (full suit for ~5k) or a lot of the more common gear floating around. Warriors are really the #1 gear dependent class here on p99, twinking on a budget will force you to prioritize your purchases. Good luck! |
Thanks very much, maestrom, for that link. After looking through this page, I've put together a list of gear that appears to be affordable, as well as what I'm looking for (prices according to the wiki, as I don't know much about the in-game economy)
Arms- Kylong Arm Guards/Giant Scalemail Sleeves (50-300pp) Back - Velium Studded Cloak (150-400pp) Chest- Tree Weave (350-700pp) Ears- Diamondine Earring x2 (200-450pp ea.) Face- Goblin Forged Iron Mask/Antlered Mask (50-200pp) Feet- Goblin Forged Iron Boots (20-75pp) Fingers- Platinum Fire Wedding Ring x2 (200-250pp ea.) Hands- Iksar Scaled Gloves (40-250pp) Head- Kylong War Helm (100-300pp) Legs- Kylong Greaves (117-250pp) Neck- Chipped Velium Amulet (230-550pp) Shoulders- Tattered Mantle (121-267pp) Waist- Sludged Girdle (200-400pp) Wrists- Dark Rust Bracer x2 (25-300pp ea.) Primary- Green Jade Broadswoard (100-250pp) Secondary- Obsidian Shard (50-100pp) Ranged- Runed Bone Fork (100-400pp) Total price range ~2100-5400 pp (big variation due to large price ranges on the wiki); any thoughts as to how long this set will be effective for (in terms of levels), or better/more price efficient pieces? Would Crawdad's recommendations be more price effective than what I've set up here? |
Wiki prices are not always up-to-date.
Check http://ahungry.com/eqauctions Many of those items might be much cheaper now that Velious gear is out. For example, Orc Fang Earrings are ~200 and are 1ac more then Diamondine. |
Pick up a jarsath trident too
About 100pp with a good ratio/stats Staff of battle is also a good option once you hit lvl 30 |
I've been slowly replacing my warrior's trooper scale armor - I can throw you a few pieces if you're interested.

Obsidian shards are dubious advice in my experience.
I levelled a dex build warrior to 30. Obsidian shards won't generate enough aggro to reliably tank in most groups, often all they will do is break the root that is helping you to keep being tank! A single obsidian shard is arguably justifiable at low duel wield skill (as even when your offhand fails to produce a swing it can still proc at the normal offhand rate). Personally I found the Polished Granite Tomahawk a better proc offhander during these early levels as it is passable aoe aggro and also improves your tanking. Once you hit a decent duel wield skill you want to swap out for a proper weapon, and certainly once you reach 150 double attack (allowing you to double attack with the off hand). For good proc weapons I suggest try getting a rogue epic farmer to help you get a Scimitar of Ykesha from Kithicor forest and a Trochillic's Skean from Steamfont. I think the weapons on your wishlist are passible till you can get my 2 no drop suggestions |
