Karstens write up is fairly spot on. You miss out on opportunities while immersed in video games. It leaves you as a husk that has failed to reach your full potential. It doesn't really apply here since most ppl here are mentally ill or have drug addictions.

I dunno if that's the actual Karsten here or not, interesting post.

I'll disagree on one point though, that EQ always provides you meaningful progression which keeps you in that loop. The difference for me of classic EQ from modern MMO's is that often you accomplished nothing when you logged in, and sometimes you even moved backwards with a couple of unrezzed deaths, but yet I fucking loved it. You would sit in some shit group by today's standards in Guk at a camp that consisted of maybe five mobs total every half hour and you were still immersed as fuck. I'd scour the Internet for popular EQ sites to see what new mobs were found, what new items dropped that id never see, etc. No other MMO has ever had that effect, at least on me.

That's probably one of the most depressing parts of p99. That mystery feeling, and sense of true immersion, doesn't exist here. Guess it's a good thing it doesn't though ;)

It's amazing to me you managed to overcome all of that despite the odds, to marry a 10/10 with an incredibly sex drive, below average intellect, become a multi millionaire, and a rock hard physique who can challenge the greatest weight lifters of our generation.
