Seems like an Asian thing. They use a lot of unconventional naming shenanigans. My friend dated and married a Thai girl and I had a lot of exposure to the fob Thai culture.

None of them went by their real names. They all called each other alternative names. Like her real name could be something pretty like "Charinee" and all her friends including her loving husband call her "Juggs" (I'm guessing this means something in Thai).

They had this Eurasian/Korean indentured servant friend of theirs (small slave dot circle mark on the side of her neck in plain sight) that gave me the willies when my eye would run across it. Something about an obvious slave brand is just eerie.

She definitely escaped the clutches of the Tong, who I am guessing, smuggled her over for work.
