Best Console / Handheld RPG's

So I'm recovering from a nasty cold and I'm bored of all pc games, and I want to play a cozy old console RPG. There are some highly-praised classics I've never played, like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy 3(6). I also never managed to finish Super Mario RPG as a kid because my fucking Mom always took it back to the rental place before I was done so I might do that again. Also intrigued by the Fire Emblem series but I don't even know where to start there. Baldurs Gate / NWN aren't consoles but I'm throwing them in there because I haven't played them and I dunno how they compare.

What's the best of these titles? Any recommendations?

I've already played FF7 and most other major titles except those listed in the poll.

Suikoden 1 and then 2. You won't be disappointed.

FFT has a special place in my heart because it blends a fantastic story (best on your list imo*) with tactical combat. It's beautiful for a PS1 title and the job system character development lets you somewhat mix and match abilities for unique-ish characters.

And if you play it on an emulator, there's a really popular difficulty mod for it I've been wanting to check out. If you haven't played this, please do.

*Haven't played Fire Emblems.

Final Fantasy 2 was really good. It was probably the best RPG I ever played when I was a kid. Great story, and fun! Tons of good memories for sure! :)

Final Fantasy 6 for SNES is my all time favorite RPG. It really is amazing how much story and characters they could cram into a 16-bit game. Only game to ever make me cry, it's got some powerful moments. FF6>FF7 Ive always felt this way, and FF7 is great...just not as great as all the things FF6 did on SNES, years before.
