Stacks of Padding to max Blacksmithing?

I've searched around but not finding it...anyone have a rough guess as to how many stacks of leather padding it takes to skill from 175 to 235 or so (60 skill ups) assuming 200 STR?

Trying to gauge when I should buckle down and make my run.

I assume I want to try to get to 255 STR if possible - will it make a huge difference?

Thanks!

I believe wis/int (whichever is higher) will determine your skill up rate. And strength will determine if you succeed or not, which will to a lesser degree affect skill ups. So you want a high wis/int more than str while skilling up.

It cost me about 30k in padding as a human to get 236

Incorrect. Str has the same effect as int/wis for blacksmithing. Same for Dex for Fletching. The only thing that changes success rate is your skill level compared to the trivial of the item.

30k in padding? that's 150 stacks...3000 combines for 60 skill-ups? 1 skill up in 50 attempts seems pretty low

took me 20combine/1skill up to do from 170ish to 220 op. But that is averaging over all of them sometimes i got 2/20 and sometimes i got 1/40 etc

I went fine plate immediately after banded instead of making ornate and the jump from 208 -222 was expensive. Anything over 230 is also rare. But that is better than using HQ ore for ornate in my opinion.

Damn I've been eyeing up blacksmithing, glad I checked this thread, had no idea STR was a major player in skilling up.

Not to hijack OP's original question/thread, but what items did you smithing pros craft, and in what progression, in order to get to where you're at now?
