The great thing about MOBA's is you can squeeze quick games in here and there. I think one of the reasons there more popular than MMOs is because you can be good at them without sacrificing most your life to the venture. "Good" =/= "Top League" however.
Fortunately for most people, they have a self-esteem building ranking system that lies to you about how good you are. I remember I finally got to gold with a lot of practice (and I mean I belonged there, didn't just get a lucky win streak). That was like 10% of the population at the time. Now gold is like copper used to be and the new gold is "Diamond IV" or whatever the fuck.
But I guess that's what the people want.

Only MOBA kind of thingy that I've played would be guild wars (assuming I understand MOBA correctly) and that just for the beta. I expect I will be bad and remain bad, but become less bad. Never been good at fast paced things. I am slow to react, tend towards panic and cannot focus, haha! That doesn't prevent me from having fun though ^^
The ranking revision you describe reminds me of D3 difficulty iirc: normal, hard, super hard, extra super hard, etc. (those weren't the actuall descriptors, but that is effectively what they were). We can't have easy or extra easy though, because how would people feel about themselves if they had a hard time clearing those lol ^^ Kinda like the clothing size revisions some retailers rolled out a few years ago. All about how we feel about ourselves hehe. People just have a hard time acknowledging they aren't always super ^^
