Learning to bard

Hello, everyone.

Learning to swarm as a 30 bard. Quick question: how long is a Selo supposed to last for? Wiki says 3 ticks, so should be 18 seconds, right? Or it depends on when it hits compared to "server ticks" ? So it could be less than 18? Maybe a lot less?

The following happens to me every once in a while:

1. I cast Selos successfully

2. I cast a DoT

3. I cast Selos but fizzle... takes a second to realize and I start recasting it of course, but.. :

4. Couple seconds later I "slow down" and die.

Between Selos in (1) took effect ("Your feet move faster") to 4 ("You slow down"), maybe only 9 or 10 seconds went by, instead of 18 seconds.

Is this working as intended?

Thank you.

Im not a swarmkiting bard but Im pretty sure youre not supposed to use Selos during swarming. You gotta grab mobs with a slower run movement than you.

It should last 18 seconds, yes. Most swarming bards will get a set of JBoots, because that is a good, stable run speed that doesn't change. It's a lot harder to swarm if every level your speed changed dramatically.
You could be experiencing lag? When you have 100 mobs all getting dotted at the same time, that's a lot of information to bog down your game. Have you considered this? Perhaps try a smaller kite and see if you are still getting the same issues...

Don't bother with selos. Make a strafe key and use auto run while strafing. This will allow you to slightly outrun the swarm. Then turn slightly with mouse to get songs to land. This worked better for me but my comp gets a bit of video lag so I didn't swarm much.

I found this works the best by far. If you use Selos, or SoW pots, or Jboots, all you're doing is adding another skill/ability to mess up. You can outrun any mobs you want to swarm by strafing, you stay closer, and dont have to worry about your speed dropping. Also a huge waste of money.

I leveled from 2 to 60 100% swarm kiting. I've never used selos/jboots/sow. Normal run speed all the way.

Don't forget to learn to group along the way!

How to act like a 2 boxed bard while solo.

How to play a druid that only quads.

How to lose function in your right hand.

How to use cruise control without any knowledge of driving.

yes, if you get unlucky your 3-tick songs can last 12.000000001 seconds x_x

at least i think that's how it works
