Spell Scribing Speed
 

I finally got around to pulling my EQMac logs to determine what the scribe speed is supposed to be. I believe one of the developers said this was something that could be changed on P99, but here are the values. The change based on the level differential between Spell Level and Level of Player.

EQMac (Classic) Scribing Speeds:

• Equal Level - 47 Seconds
• 1 Level Lower - 38 Seconds
• 2 Levels Lower - 28 Seconds
• 3 Levels Lower - 19 Seconds
• 4+ Levels Lower - 10 Seconds

I would get very immersed if this could be implemented. Leveling up as a caster into a spell level always meant a 5-10 minute adventure staring into your spell book while your group continued to pull as you slowly scribed all 10 spells you acquired that level!

Did you train meditate while doing your test Daldaen?
From what I remember, it was slow as hell to scribe a spell but medidate definitely made it faster.

Meditate couldn't be trained until level 8. So the logs of the level 1-5 spells are all pre-meditate.

The logs of the 50+ spells are obviously post meditate and the scribe times are identical for the same level differential of spell vs caster level. So I concluded meditate and spell casting school skill levels were irrelevant.

meditate never changed the speed of scribing spells

you are thinking of "memorizing" the spells to your bar after scribing which is certainly affected by meditation skill

There was a post in another thread by Haynar or Rogean I believe, saying there was a Titanium client issue preventing this... but confirmed it was indeed classic, just nothing that could easily be done. I'll try and dig up the post.

Based on calcs in decompile of eqmac client I get.

46 sec
36.8 sec
27.6 sec
18.4 sec
9.2 sec

Just need to find equivalent equation in titanium. And adjust. Maybe.

Should scale off meditate skill actually

I don't recall if scribing did, or if that was just memorizing. I know they gave bards meditate in like January of 2000 because a level 50 took upwards of 2 mins to memorize a spell without mediate (according to official patch message)

Daldaen's logs appear as if specific spells had different scribe timers, as he took 47 seconds on some above level 50.

Edit: doh, re read thread, this had already been pointed out. Sigh, dald also have explanation of why scribe time was different... mobile forumQuest sux.

Immersion occurs while staring at spell book after spell levels. Everyone needs this immersion.

Bump any chance new wizardry has come to light that could force these classic scribe times? Dinging a new spell level should always schedule you for a solid 10 minutes of staring at your spell book during classic.
