Character Runs Slower on Mac

For some reason, my character's run speed is slower on a MacBook Pro than a standard windows laptop. When strafe running for AOE kiting, mobs that shouldn't catch up to me can on the MPB. The same mobs cannot catch up to me on the windows laptop. Any ideas why this would be?

MBP is newer, better specs, and running EQ via a Windows 10 bootcamp install. Windows laptop is running Windows 10.

What model MacBook Pro?

I've run EQ on an Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro (dual booting Windows 7 64bit with macOS Sierra) and sometimes on my Late 2009 Mac Mini (dual booting Windows XP 32bit with macOS El Capitan). Both seem to handle the game fine in Old World and Kunark zones. Haven't tested them out in Velious or in raid situations yet. But so far so good.

At the time, my MacBook Pro had a 500GB HDD (bootcamp volume for Windows was 40GB) and I had 8GB of RAM installed. This model MacBook Pro can still be opened and upgraded, so I have since upgraded this to a 1TB SDD and 16GB of RAM, but haven't gotten around to reinstalling Windows yet, so I'm relying on my Mac Mini for now.

If you can upgrade your MacBook's hardware, I recommend doing so.

If you can't upgrade the hardware, then Windows 10 might be running extra stuff that is slowing things down. Try to find what's running and see if it can be turned off, otherwise, try a 64-bit flavor of Windows 7.

It is the 2015 MBP. The game doesn't appear to lag or anything at all, and I can only notice a difference in that mobs can catch up to me when strafe running, when they shouldn't. The specs are also better than the windows laptop that I am using...

Pay close attention and you might note that animations are also slowed down with the run speed. If that's the case, I also get this issue on one of my Windows boxes -- never been able to resolve it (although there are a multitude of alleged solutions for Windows).

Sometimes it runs full speed, sometimes it seems like full speed but i'm actually at 90% speed and mobs will be able to catch me, sometimes it drops to like 50% speed and attack animations look comically silly. The spell cast meter also acts funny when this is happening (if at 50% speed, the spell will go off when the cast bar is only halfway done going down). Runspeed and character animations scale with it, but framerate stays the same.

Supposedly solutions to do with specifying the priority and cores used by the program have helped some people. I can't really remember the specifics because I was never able to get results, but they're on this forum somewhere.

You would want to try setting cpu affinity to only using 1 cpu for everquest, usually this would be marked as 0 (first cpu). The problem is I am not sure that you can do this in mac os x, whereas you can in linux or windows. It may not even be needed for mac os however, as the problem might be related to something else. I think there are a lot of mac users who don't have any issues at all with eq.

Manually set the CPU affinity and it still isn't working. Additionally, I am running it on a windows 10 bootcamp install, which is what makes this particularly weird!

I guess I'll just have to use the old PC laptop :/

Are you able to set cpu affinity in mac os? And I know that I run slower than mobs or other players while alt tabbed, or seem to. I wonder if somehow your window is not the true active window and instead acting as if you are tabbed. Probably not but it is a thought. It must be solvable in any case since many others do not seem to have this issue.

I run my games through bootcamp also on a imac and a macbook. What type of hard drive do you have? Is it a fusion drive? If so I recommend making your windows 10 partition at least 100gb. Also, don't put your eq folder in program files. Put it at the root of C:. Thirdly turn of indexing by Right click on the EQ folder and go to Properties > Advanced Button > Uncheck everything.
