With the (American) holidays approaching, though not a classic feature, instead of having periods of rain, how about snow? Perhaps a week before Thanksgiving through a week after New Years Eve would give it a subtle holiday feeling.

Other countries may have their own version, but I was thinking of the great eating, drinking, and watching (American) football holiday - Thanksgiving, as the upcoming starter holiday. Though Halloween is considered the start of the season for some, the weather was too warm to have snow.
