Newbie to the server

Hey everyone! I've been floating around playing on several different emu's trying to get my eq fix. I've been in love with this game since I first played (shortly after pop was released). I've been hesitant to try this server because I was afraid of being disappointed but I'm over that now. Hoping to find some good friends here and make some awesome eq memories like when I first started playing as a halfelf warrior. Not sure what class in gonna be yet. Thinking Mage Druid pally or monk.

I love melee classes but I'm probably going to need something capable of soloing at times I dunno lol. What's needed here classwise? Clerics are always good I know but I've played em and they're pretty boring with the sit stand heal sit routine :p

I soloed a monk up to thirty something on live. Took some time but prior to the mitigation nerf it was very doable. Guys who play monks here now can speak as to if that mitigation thing is client and so unchangeable or if it's like it was pre-nerf. The monk was great fun as groups would not be hard to find if I wanted.

I think the most important thing is play what's fun!

I'm like you, new to the server. it's great so far. a few people are asking this same question, "what's needed" but it looks like everything is needed. if you really wanted to know what is needed the most then perhaps you should give your playstyle... hardcore/end game may be perhaps the only situation where "what's needed" really is an important question. otherwise, just about everything is needed... except mages lol. apparently this server is saturated with mages.

however, a player that's good at their class is always needed. I'd take a very good X over a highly needed Y just about anytime.

I prefer to play the class I enjoy the most, gear and plat will come naturally while lvling no matter the class(little tougher with monks). That way you will be enjoying the game, and not playing a class you don't like just to eventually get into a guild that needs you.

Needed: clerics, sk/pallys, dps, cc/regen, and shamans ;)

Haha yeah I figured mages would be running rampant. I was just considering one because that's what I mained on live after I started nit being able to get groups on my war due to lack of gear. :(

I'd play a Druid but they always seem to just sub for clerics in regular groups and I need a more active role in making things die hehe. Tanks are my absolute fans but they are also way too gear dependent. Idk might end up with a paladin or something. Rogues are hella fun too. I also like bards but my fingers tent to lock up after a good grind on one lol

maybe think about how you want to play...

powerlevel vs "classic";
dungeon vs outdoor;
endgame hardcore raiding vs casual raiding;
with a tight group of friends to level with vs winging it;
relive your old experiences vs having new experiences, etc.

the answer to these will greatly help you figure out what's best for you. each answer takes you down a narrowing road as far as what class fits you best.

I think monk would be a good choice for you

Ok so I went with a bard! After a couple of hours in qeynos he's barely lvl 4 lol. I forgot just how hard it is to level up from absolutely nothing! Still I can't wait till I can start getting some groups and do some dungeon crawls!

Hit up giliandos in game if u got a lowbie and want to group up or just toss me a buff lol see u guys in game.

Good luck to you. Bards can be fun and challenging. I always like to have a Bard in my group.
