SOLVED: crash to desktop when camping
There are a few threads floating around about this, but I thought I'd make Forumquesters proud by sharing how I actually solved this issue:
After upgrading to a SSD computer, my game began crashing every time I camped. A number of fixes pointed to right-clicking on the Everquest icon and running it in compatibility or admin mode, but that never worked. What DID finally work was installing a custom UI to replace the default p99 UI. I tested both Duxa's and QQUI, both worked -- once I loaded the skin onto a character, camping worked without crashing. Any characters that did *not* have the new UI installed continued to crash when camping. So, there you go! No idea why this works, but it does. Cheers! |
Interesting. I fixed my crashing when camping issue by changing compatibility on the eqgame.exe executable to Windows XP SP3.

Changing compatibility to Windows XP SP3 on eqgame worked for me as well. No more crashes on camping. Thanks!

If I change my EQ to Windows XP 3 or 2 I crash when I zone, when I leave it default I crash when I log. So either way, none of those work for me. Or Admin mode. I'm at a loss.

Yeah, there seems to be two camps here:
-People who crash when camping every single time -People who fix that issue and then never crash Meanwhile, I crash when camping like.. 60% of the time, and maybe 10% of the times I zone. No pattern to it otherwise, it can be any zone. I've also definitely noticed that I crash *much* more often if I frequently switch between two characters on separate accounts, compared to switching between two characters on the same account. |
I used to crash while zoning or logging into a character quite frequently. Once I switched to a custom UI (QQUI mixed with Duxa) I hardly ever crash anymore.

still waiting for the "fix" of why i crash 50% of the time when i first try logging in but will never crash on my second attempt. makes no sense.

I have all of the problems noted in this thread too. |
