I never understood class/race restrictions...

I guess in some cases, they make sense. I can’t imagine very many Ogre Wizards, but in many cases I didn’t get it. For instance, who’s to say High Elves and Erudites didn’t have some unsavory citizens that took to thieving. For that matter, if we’re gonna argue Rogue validity, how in the world is a seven foot tall Barbarian sensible when it comes to being quiet, nimble and sneaky. How do Erudites have Paladins, which are a combination of Warrior/Cleric, yet there are no Erudite Warriors. Furthermore, I find it just as unlikely that notably frail Erudites would have ever said “hey I’m going to primarily specialize in getting my shit pushed in, but I’ll twist about 25% of my races highest potential in with it”. How did Wood Elves, which are perfectly capable of worshiping Tunare, fail to meet Cleric criteria.

I think I’m many cases, EverQuest really designated what “makes sense” in terms of race/class limitations, but ultimately, if I really think about it, many of them don’t make sense.

Every apprentice needs a master; so while many restricted combinations could exist, those characters wouldn't have the support to progress so work better as NPCs.

Key example being half elf wizards; they do exist in game as Karana Bandits, but aren't a player choice, perhaps due to the prejudice of haughty establishments who (correctly) refuse to train those filthy, volatile mudbloods.

Even so, I do think there are some overlooked combinations, especially once you include deity.

Halfling Warrior of Bristlebane being one; afterall soldiers are famous for their morbid humour.

Personally I think Wood Elves make sense as an option for a Shaman as they are a more sort of primal species than all other elves.

Sure Jimjam, but why are there no half-elf SKs? It's quite senseless that a minority group of mixed race people subject to discrimination doesn't have a fair few turning to the dark side.

Ogres were wizards once, but cannot be wizards anymore because the Gods cursed them after Zek tried to conquer all existence.

Hope lore helps

Many people do not know this but the Vikings were very robust and skilled when it came to military intelligence and clandestine operations.

They even created their own martial arts that is still in use today.

So technically Barbarians should be able to be Monks.

Even though technically they're not Nordic, they're Celtic.

But Nordic Vikings used Celtic lands as breeding grounds, so really they're the same.
