The free market cannot function in the absence of competition. I want to see the capitalist monopolies like Amazon, Google, and Facebook broken up. I want to see employee unions broken up for the same reason. There is no inconsistency here.


Wages (and other compensation) go up due to increased demand for labor. If a new company is making huge profits because it is paying a below market wage, competitors will move in and steal their workers by offering them higher salaries. If a union uses monopoly bargaining power to increase wages, than that company will have lower or negative profits, lose capital investment, and eventually go bankrupt to competitors that don't have unions, at which point the workers must either take huge pay cuts or find new jobs. For example, GM went through Ch11 in 2009 due to huge pension obligations to UAW. Within the next 10 years, multiple US states led by IL and NJ will be forced to declare bankrupcty, and all of their public employee pensions will be drastically slashed.

TLDR: Unions do not create wealth. Put down your copy of Das Kapital.
