Duck/cancel and green server

Over on the red server you can't interrupt a spell by duck/cancelling at this point in the timeline. I didn't play RZ at the time so I don't know if that's classic.

Also, duck/cancel on blue has been a staple of P99 life... including duck/cancelling CoTH for Trakanon among the old raid guilds before Trak had even spawned.

However, for green server should this still be the case? A snippet from the June 2001 patch (Velious era)

** Gameplay Changes **

- Spell and Item Interruption: Ducking will now interrupt a spell
instantly.
You will no longer be able to sit while using items or
casting spells. This will not affect bard songs, which will still work
as they always have, but will affect all items, even those with song-
like effects.
Duck/cancel wasn't classic until June 2001?

I hope this brings green in line with the true nature of classic EQ, and yes I'll put this in the bug section and save Daldaen the trouble before green goes up <3

Since the devs have already implemented the code for it, my guess would be that Green won't allow ducking until it's era-appropriate.

But really we're all just idly speculating for no reason, which does no good because it's not like we can reason or discuss the answer out: it's entirely a matter of staff preference whether any given non-classic quality of life improvement will make it to Green (and in a relatively short time they'll answer all these questions).

If we're talking non-classic quality of life, that opens up a can of worms (shared bank, no coin weight, even trader mode) :p

The staff have so many tough decisions to make on these things. But hey, if ducking (or sitting) doesn't instantly cancel spells, you can do what we used to do on Red: start casting, sit for a med tick, and stand before the spell completes. It's nice on Complete Healing. Duck canceling spells has pros and cons. It's kind of a trade-off.

I think the decision has already been made and implemented in the auto roll-out patches for green.

Were bards able to stop song during cast on initial release or did this apply to them also?

I’d be on board for this change if classic. The downside is obvious but apparently so is the upside. Imagine being able to continuously Med during longer cast time spells with proper timing. Being a cleric in particular would be a bit more complex as you are locked down when you choose to complete heal but can manage to get in 1-2 ticks that would otherwise be lost. Charming would carry more potential risk as a healer ducking for a fast patch heal would be impossible.

That change would nerf healing classes immensely imagine being locked into long casts haha

On the plus side you can still interrupt by jumping or moving around (to save mana), but yeah no stopping the cast once it starts.
