offensive/defensive caps pre 50
 
So as a 40 SK, my weapon skills and offensive skill are the highest they will be until 50. My defensive skill will cap at level 42 (until 5)

Does that mean that my hit chance, and my chance to be hit, a mob of a certain level (say, a level 42 mob) will not change from level 42 to level 50? Assuming gear is the same, am I as effective of a damage dealer (or tank minus scaling HP per STA) at level 42 as i am at level 50? And the mob i can realistically solo for EXP now, is the same mob i will have to be soloing at level 50? If not, why?

If so, 8 levels of your character not really becoming any stronger (in a twinked blue world) is kind of the pits, huh?

Yes, that's basically what did it for me way back when on live with my rogue. I made it to about 43 and it just petered out.

You do get more HP and Mana per level, so there's that, but honestly your improvement from 40-50 is gear, and your 49 & 50 spells.

You also gain level differential and combat table scaling versus what you're fighting. Even with the same skills, fighting a zol ghoul knight at level 40 is a much different experience then fighting the same thing at level 48.

Your chance to be hit etc doesn't just scale with skill levels, it scales with actual levels too. So your chance to be hit by a level 40 mob at 50 will be less than at 40.

Yes max at 42 and it's no coincidence that raiding starts at 45ish so the gear can be cycled up with successive raids.
