Widescreen vs fullscreen whatsit viewport stuff.

I'm on the Beta and I'd like to try out this thing I read about but didn't understand.

it goes like this: Supposedly, because I'm using widescreen or whatever, it actually limits what I can see.

Can someone tell me what resolution I should go to in order to fix this? I'm normally in 1920x1080

Ok so go here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...on_resolutions and sort the column so you see all the 4:3 resolutions which are perfect for EQ. You need to pick something where both values are smaller or equal than your widescreen.

1440×1080 looks like it would go fine on your screen, if you want some padding you can go with 1400x1050. That's for perfect 4:3, but in reality you can be a little off to fit better on screen if you need to, like 1400x1020 would be perfectly fine.

Thanks Black. Appreciate it.

uh, not fine BlackBellamy. I'm actually still really confused. haha.

I don't have an enormous monitor but everythuing is usually in 1920x1080.

Do I then do a viewport command like /viewport 0 0 1400 1050 or something?
If I do that, what resolution do I select in game?

Sillyturtle 10-12-2019 11:05 PM

So I've got it in windowed mode 1920x1080 and I've done /viewport 0 0 1440 1050. Not really noticing much of a field of view change. Am I doing it wrong?

Would be awesome to have the UI in the black space to the right, but Velious UI is transparent black and its just like a bunch of floating icons in black. Looks weird.

you definitely will see a field of view change. you will see more at top and bottom. left and right always the same.
you don't need a perfect 4:3, just closer the better.

Sillyturtle 10-12-2019 11:27 PM

Oooh, I was looking at sideways stuff.

Ok, well that's cool. I'll work with it a little more and see what I can do to adjust for the terrible Velious UI.

im using /viewport 220 0 1440 1080

This adds the buffers on the sides thanks to the others dudes in the other thread. I like it bit better to be centered.

That's actually really good! Thanks!

Here's my setup from last night when I finally settled on a good arrangement, although the tinkering of course will never cease.

My monitor is 2560x1440.

I run P99 in a window with the following in my eqclient.ini:

WindowedWidth=2000
WindowedHeight=1382

I leave 560px on the left for desktop stuff. I leave 58px on the bottom because I like to see the taskbar.

Once game loads I did /viewport 0 0 1440 1080

Now I have perfect 4:3 unobstructed view because I can place all the UI elements out of the viewport. Also, it's centered on the monitor because of the 560px padding on the desktop to the left and another 560px padding inside the game client on the right.

I changed the Window-->Background-->Tint Color for all the windows to 0 0 20 so there's some contrast.

This is so not classic. Har har har.
