Live server population

Does anyone know of a resource that showed live server populations before they stopped showing a numerical value?

Its hard for me to remember. I remember over 1000 all the time, and 3000's on the big servers but I can't recall when these numbers were from.

This data has never been available, except maybe in beta. Any "resource" claiming otherwise is bullshit.

Stop talking if you don't know what you're talking about.

You sure put me in my place! A web archive of a screenshot from a 3rd party tool from 1999 certainly exudes reliability and accuracy.

Server population was on the server select screen until the Sept 11, 2001 patch. It's in the patch notes, go look.

That's not a screenshot.

Go home, you're drunk.

** Miscellaneous Updates **

- The server selection screen now only gives information on whether or
not a server is up instead of providing player counts. In addition, the
"count" option on the /who command has been restricted to internal
personnel. Servers on the server selection screen are still ordered
from least-populated to most populated in order to assist players in
choosing the least populated server.

I recall writing an app to grab EQ server status in VB6 when I was in high school. I remember it fairly well as it was the first time I had delved into the difference between TCP and UDP traffic. All of the EQ server status data was provided via UDP streams with a specific data structure. They provided population count as part of this data.
