A couple of questions on EQ lore
 

I've got a few questions maybe someone around here might know.

1. The end of the civil war between the Erudites marks the beginning of the Age of Turmoil, but at launch there was no Paineel. Does that mean we will technically start at the end of the Age of Enlightenment? If so, was there ever any sort of event to commemorate the opening of Paineel on live servers?

2. How long is an age anyway? A Thousand years? More? Less? There have been 6 so far.

3. There is a half moon altar in the Feerrott. I've read it's of Dark Elf origin but does anyone know its significance? Why is it there at all?

1. I wasn't playing yet back then so I do not know.
2. As far as I know an age isn't a certain length of time but instead a label put onto a tI'm frame that had significance to the majority of the world.
3. The Dark Elves are the true rulers of all of Norrath, dragons and gods don't have shit on us. It's there as a display of power just to say "hey ogres and lizards, we allow you to live here, don't forget it."

Thanks. That timeline shows some things out of order a little from where I've read them elsewhere, though. Not sure which sources are more correct

1. IMO: I would say that Paineel was discovered - after all, there are skeletons digging a tunnel to Paineel - they are still there on blue, and still being harassed by the abandoned heretic pet telling them to dig faster.

I'd say that the Erudite Necromancers (the heretics) at start were not from Paineel - they were outcasts of Erudin Castle for pursuing the dark arts, which is why they have such a shitty start - and then Paineel is "discovered" and connected with the outside world and the existing heretics are taken in.

That fits better with what actually happened with Live in terms of actual classic history. On servers that started after Paineel/Warrens this distinction isn't important, because Paineel was "always there"

There were no events that I remember but memory fuzzy.

2: IMO Ages are not specific time blocks but instead coincide with a race/kingdom having control of an area - the Elves had to leave Tunaria to build Kelethin & Felwithe.

I remember paineel opening, and it was quite the event. As I recall it is a repurposed temple to brell that was closed by casic or something out of jealousy. Is
