shaman a decent first class for green?
 

Are there too many shamans on Green at the moment? Will I have an issue with finding groups?

Troll, barb, Ogre or Kunark?

There are a considerable number of Shamans. Trolls likely make the best Shamans because of innate regen, and they worship Innoruk so you can eventually get the snare clicky if you want. Shaman’s are good in groups, not so good in raids, but raiding on P99 is a massive zerg anyway so it probably won’t make much difference.

This doesn't really tell the whole story. Smelly is probably referring to zerg raids of 50+ people attacking a dragon or a god, in the sense that no, that raid of 50 people doesn't want 8 shamans along if they could have 3 shamans and 5 more clerics or rogues.

But raiding, especially in classic, is as much about clearing fear and hate trash and later sky as it is about killing vox, naggy, ct, and inny. And guilds that do that stuff aren't always a megaraid or a guild that has more than enough clerics around to handle all the healing duties. Etc. In those situations, playing a sham in a raid isn't just going to mean you're one of 5+ shamans when the raid only really needs 2; it means everyone needs to pull their weight to get things done, even if you aren't the main tank, casting CHs, pulling, or backstabbing.

Troll or ogre if you're picking.

For the sake of the server rolling into blue it's good to pick a class you don't have there.

If you want to join an elite raiding guild, maybe not a shaman... but if you just want to turn up to raids socially and the like... definitely a good choice.

The only thing that a young shamanite needs (other than spells) is a weapon which will really help the first 10 levels <3

Shaman are great for beginners due to their versatility, yet straightforwardness in the basic gameplay. They are also one of the most brokenly overpowered characters in the high end of gameplay, so they are great for experts too. They are great for everyone. Now that everyone these days knows this, they are a super popular class, but that's okay!
