Correct me if im wrong....

but I thought it was alot harder to see at night in classic EQ if you were a blind race or didnt have a lightstone. For some reason I remember my monk not being able to see at all at nightime back in day, or is it just now that computer screens are brighter ?

Are you running on a Vista machine? EQ has the habit of blowing your brightness way up when you run the game.

you are correct, night time for human based (human, erudite, barb) was all horribad.

im not sure on the others, and im pretty sure that it was killed with with changes that allowed players to make adjustments to gamma/brightness.

on p99 my gnome has infravision and when i lich i get ultravision. its a noticeable difference so the vision enhancements do indeed work, however i still haven't had a humanoid type toon on p99 so i cant say just how bad it is/was/shouldbe

I once rolled a dark elf wizard... dark elf only because my eyes were streaming from having the monitor brightness up so high on my main - ultravision really was a godsend :D

It could be a client thing, I know titanium is weird with its hardcoded things.

I think back in the day most people just didn't know that turning their gamma to 11 would basically give any race the ability to see well at night. In fact I'm not even positive there was an in game gamma control way back then, I can't remember.

Now the first thing someone would most likely do when encountering the night or something that is hard to see would be to tweak their gamma and make it more workable.

The titanium client is a lot brighter than the older clients. The Shards of Dalaya server is really dark compared to this and thats on a luclin or PoP era client.

Also there's this weird bug where you'll gain ultravision even if you're a blind as a bat human/erudite. It cycles on and off but its on enough.

I'm so glad its this way too. Turning up the gamma allows you to see well but it also makes the game look way shittier than it already is.

I remember it was near impossible to run the blackburrow tunnel from halas as any race without some type of vision enhancement or light source (before you memorized it).

The game was much darker..... I remember hiding at inn 1 in EC, not being able to see very far, and being afraid of the ambient sounds : D Also itmes that gave off light were slightly useful. I have noticed, though, that when I run eqemu it turns my monitor's brightness up. First noticed this when I went to play minecraft and could see well at night. I have to restart my comp to get the regular brightness, happens on every computer Ive played on.
