Does STR affect bow damage?

I just wanted to check before I make my Ogre archer.

DEX = archery damage

Was it patched recently? All the (old) threads I can find say STR determines damage, and DEX determines crit chance.

Yes. Archery uses Strength.

The wiki, the guides, and conventional RPG wisdom says Archery and thrown weapons should use Dexterity. That way, there's build diversity: some players go Str and use melee weapons, some players go Dex and focus on ranged weapons.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. :(

OK strength for damage but is dex for hitting more often?

Dex just improves the rate of skill ups, proc chance and melee (maybe bow too) crit chance. It's not actually involved directly in any accuracy check, from my understanding.

I believe dex affects bow crit chance.

From the P99 wiki statistics page:

Brad McQuaid: "DEX: how quickly you learn weapon skills; how often weapon will proc; how quickly you learn rogue skills; how hard you hit with bows"[6]

On Red server Dexterity affects PVP hit rate. It does this by comparing your dexterity to your opponent's agility.
