Less Laggy

Anyone know how to make the game less "laggy"? I have an old computer and EQ runs quite slow on it. I have XP, with 1 GB of RAM. I know there's a way to reduce clip plane, etc. I fiddled with some display adjustments. I need to know specifically what to do to make it run smoother.

I've done corpse runs to BB and crashed THREE times so far. It's actually worse for me now compared to when I had dial-up in '99. :(

The game will need a beefier PC than it needed in 99 since the engine is from 2005 (Titanium).

One of a few things you can do to increase FPS is, make sure you close stuff running in the background. Music players etc. If you want to listen to music use the ingame player.

A huge one is turning off the Sky. So press ALT + O to bring up options, and then turn off the sky in there. Should increase your FPS significantly.

My PC was purchased in 2005, but is crappy compared to today's standards.

I do turn off EVERYTHING in the background, including AVG which has the audacity to run scans while I'm playing. I forgot about Titanium needing more power, that makes sense. I'm not at all technical. I was very pleased with myself when I downloaded EQT and got it all up and running a few days ago.

I will try that with FPS and the sky. I also forgot how horrible an Erudite's eyesight was, goddammit!

Try the sky first.. if that does help enough lower Max Framer Per Second slider down to 50

Turn on Level of Detail (its a clicky box)

then under particles there are 3 tabs (Spell/Env/Player), in all 3 move Density to Low and Near Clip Plane to Medium.

Then click Advanced Button and uncheck EVERYTHING... so that it looks like this:

All of that should at least double your FPS. If you are satisfied with the way things are running you may want to try setting Spell Density to Medium instead of Low and setting Sky to Simple instead of off. Rest of the settings dont really effect the graphics that much but increase FPS tremendously.

YOu also might want to try adjusting the opacity on spell effects, using some variant of the /shownames command, and if you have a ton of crap loading on your computer during startup like alot of people learn how to use msconfig to disable it.

Thanks!

You're the best, Chrushev, it worked!

Now I'm much faster in game, and it's not laggy at all. Even with my ancient box of wires.
