So I there was a really annoying bird chirping outside all week and it wouldn't go away. It wouldn't start chirping until it got dark and would do it all night.

I got so frustrated with it that I went out into my yard searching for it so I could scare it off. After stalking my own yard in the dark for a couple of hours like a ranger poop socking Severilous I finally found it.... a tiny frog on top of my swimming pool cover.

I scooped him up in a plastic pill container and took him to the lake across town. We are both much happier now.

2.5 semesters till board exam. I am trying! Thank you.

Mag, that lead me down an interesting rabbit hole. So with a profession like nursing, and engineering, too, you have to factor in gender. Nursing is something like 95% female. So there's a huge increase of suicide rate for male nurses. Think it was around 3x higher than average with a preference for firearms (you see this with men in general.) Nationally, the suicide rate for females is around 7-8 per 100k. With female nurses its just under 12 with a preference for overdose (although use of firearms is going up.) That's another huge increase. Factor in access to and education on drugs, and the lethality rate for drug overdose skyrockets with this population.

Something incredibly unfortunate with nursing as a profession is that they hold themselves to a higher, double standard in regards to mental illness. There's a culture of non-disclosure and seeking help is heavily stigmatized. If I'm licensed and check myself into an inpatient facility and they find out I'm a nurse, they have a duty to report me to my state's Board of Nursing. I'll be investigated and probably put on probation, suspension, or have my license revoked for being a danger to myself or others. Couple this with incredible stress and emotional toll the profession takes (30% of new grads leave the profession in 2 years), is it any wonder nurses are at a higher risk of suicide? Shit needs to change in the field and it's something I want to help advocate for when I get in.
