Right, but a simple (and more classic) fix would have been to cap quest XP gains.

You want to use 50 accounts to gnoll scroll to 60? You can try, but after you get (say) 20% of your XP for the level from quests, quest XP stops working. Go kill something, those 50 accounts won't help (much).

Who cares if the people who prepped for the race get to race 20% faster (while playing by the rules of classic EQ) ... unless you care that much more about speed running than you do about classic EQ?

This is totally true. We nerds have always tried to flex our “skillz” against one another, but the whole digital trophy system that exists now has made it much more cringe. The weird jock “esport” thing is so lame.
