Things that are considered “toxic” about masculinity used to include being overly tough, not showing your emotions, not allowing oneself to be vulnerable, being a “man’s man”

Which interestingly enough, these same qualities are being shoehorned into Hollywood’s female heroes by modern feminist writers. I haven’t been following it but from hearing about the new female movie/tv show heroes, especially superheros, they all have that male masculine quality: tough, extremely competent, never emotional, never vulnerable, never dependent, almost always independent (I don’t need no man!), also interestingly enough almost always single, whereas male (super)heroes were often involved in romances, such as the Spider-Man characters

It’s like despite the fact women think these qualities are “toxic” in men, they copy them when they try to portray a “tough” female heroine. I personally don’t agree with some that they secretly venerate these qualities, but rather that they are just a new generation of shitty writers who don’t know how to write good nuanced female heroine yet

Here’s an example of the above: Galadriel in the upcoming Rings of Power series

Unlike Jackson’s portrayal (and I believe Tolkien’s) of Galadriel as the very feminine but very powerful wizard…

…this Galadriel is a warrior, wearing full plate, man-spreading her legs and showing us a dagger with some semi-phallic placement

Also, her husband from the Jackson movies (and Tolkien’s books) is completely MIA. So assuming he either is going to be dead or incapacitated. Why? Because Galadriel is one tough manly warrior woman, and she don’t need no man!

Yeah, they moved the headstones but not the bodies.

Summary: We tested the fixity of political preferences of 136 healthy males during the 2011 U.S. presidential election season by administering synthetic testosterone or placebo to participants who had identified the strength of their political affiliation. Before the testosterone treatment, we found that weakly affiliated Democrats had 19% higher basal testosterone than those who identified strongly with the party (p=0.015). When weakly affiliated Democrats received additional testosterone, the strength of their party fell by 12% (p=.01) and they reported 45% warmer feelings towards Republican candidates for president (p < 0.001). Our results demonstrate that testosterone induces a “red shift" among weakly-affiliated Democrats. This effect was associated with improved mood. No effects were found of testosterone administration for strongly affiliated Democrats or strong or weak Republicans. Our findings provide evidence that neuroactive hormones affect political preferences.

To be fair, Celeborn is an extremely minor character. Now if they include Cirdan, you may have a point.

toxic masculinity is #1 most powerful and we're worthless animals who send our best and most heroic and best versions of ourselves to die in wars so the toxic #1's can be on movie book covers, that's all there s too it.

feeling like the reality of the most recent developments deserves some sobriety in this thread and discussions like this. we're living through the most important event in America's history since 1776 and 1865
