What is this other free eq server?

SoD server is not even close to the same thing.

SoD uses the EQ client, but afaik is a custom game.

I started playing it recently when I'm not raiding/grouping on p99. It's a fun game but has a huge barrier of entry if you want to be in a real guild/get geared. They are currently trying to get put on the eqemu client too, just have to update their client.

It's really fun, tons of custom content and well made.

The main annoying part of SoD (besides being a blue server) is that the people are "lore" freaks. They basically act like you just walked into a room with a giant suitcase then tripped over and out spilled 40 pounds of child porn if you refer to a city as "freeport" instead of "whatever the hell they call it on that server".

they conceal well recognized EQ namings for a reason.
For example when you post on their forums, words like "everquest" "qeynos" "karana" automatically come out as ****. This is done so soe can't track them via internet search engines. They have been shutdown by soe court order in the past, so they trying to stay off the radar

Yeah, they used to be called "winter's roar" some time ago and got re-born as SoD.
