And their home grown weapons, like the one that sunk the battleship.

So nato is useless.

And before you say nato donates weapons, those weapons are 80% paid for by USA.

You're welcome world that hates us.

And congrats Ukraine, for single handedly using your own military and weapons from the USA to do NATO's job.

EU in March committed to financing E450m when US had committed 350m.

Individual members also contribute on top of that.

Outdated by a month source: https://www.euronews.com/next/2022/0...he-russian-inv

USA not long after announced a $800m package.

Turkey has famously sent drones.

So you can see it is not just US funding Ukraine through NATO. Even if it were mainly US funding Ukraine's defence through NATO, surely that would be better than nothing at all? Russia is trying to remove the country from the map and turn it Russian and make the population Russian.

Yes but we’re doing that because orcs are perpetrating an unconscionable murder campaign against a free people. NATO’s job is to defend its members. We aren’t fighting for Ukraine, they are fighting for themselves with our weapons because they were outmatched by orcs

Edit: this was in response to Jib’s post, not Jimjam’s

Natos members does not need nato to defend itself if its members are sending arms to a country not in nato to defend itself.

Why cant they just agree to do this, without natio? You said yourself nato is not helping, yet the countries that are in nato are helping, so what the f is nato then?

You cant explain to me why nato needs to be anything more than a signed affidavit.

Do you think NATO was able to help these countries coordinate their contributions? A huge part of NATO is to act as an established comms channel between all members.

I don’t see the difference, assuming we still have multinational bases in member countries and joint training

If such a structure existed, Putin would still say it’s a threat to Russia and there would still be detractors blaming wars like the one in Ukraine on its existence (instead of the true problem, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin)

Sorry, before I answer that question, lets clarify, do you think NATO or American military intelligence is what is helping Ukraine win this war.

Because my answer to that question is, sure, but it's a drop in the bucket to American military intelligence that Ukraine is getting from us.

As far as NATO's involvement in this war, horza and pat have made it clear it is 0.

Why cant each country build its own defense, and forts, and they just light the towers of gondor?

One might argue NATOs only role is to light the tower of gondor to call the aid of the USA.

heya, sorry I edited.

From what I understand with my recent reading, a huge part of NATO is to act as an established comms channel between all members.

My impression is this channel would play a role in sharing the intelligence you mention, as well as coordinating contributions.
