This is an own goal by Russia and we have acted as harshly as we could’ve without actually using our military. That changes nothing about the Europeans being simps, especially Germany
Missile technology is far ahead of missile defense, specifically because if you Zerg a target, you are fucked. Take an aircraft carrier. Fancy piece of equipment that with 40+ F-35s is stronger than most entire country’s air forces. What happens when China or Russia sends 100 missiles and drones in? Not good

Agreed, that's the concerning thing if this ever turns into conflict. I don't think our Navy would be super useful within 1,000 miles of China and the missile barrages directed at our few land bases would be excessive. Luckily it goes both ways and they'd probably have a hell of a time ferrying troops or supplies to Taiwan without having it all sunk.

They sit at an extremely important strategic position and they know they can extract tons of favors and resources in exchange for their friendliness. We used to keep nukes there pointed right at Russia.
Constantinople, called "the city of the world's desire", is still very important. And Turkey turning the Hagia Sophia into a mosque was sacrilege. I could go for another crusade.
