Lvl 49 Focused Pet vs. Non Epic?
 

I haven't bought the spell and tried it out yet, but didn't know if there was an obvious difference between between the focused 49 earth pet and non-epic 51 earth pet?

I meant a lvl49 Earth pet with focus vs. non-focus lvl51 Earth pet.

Between those two, no not a huge difference. The 57 earth pet is a big upgrade, much higher level makes the difference.

The 51 earth isn't worth using in most situations, if you were using it in a group I could see the level difference being worth it, otherwise the HP bonus from focus is generally better for soloing with the 49.

This is subjective, you're going to get way more dps out of the 51. If you're dismissing after every fight or chaining definitely 49. If you're keeping it for more than a single mob the 51 is better.

That's true, just not sure why you would be keeping it through multiple mobs outside of a group! The pets level matters, a lot, I agree with you there. Can you give me an example where'd you would use it?

Focus adds +1 level

Say a pet has level range of 47 to 50, Focus makes it 48 to 51.

This is why Encyclopedia Necrotheurgia is so disappointing.

Walk me through this, why does focus adding +1 lvl make the necro book disappointing? Does the EN do something different? Or does the +1 level not make much of a difference compared to the benefit on lower level mage pets?

It makes as much difference as the phinny staff, can be pretty significant if parsed out. Not sure why he finds it disappointing

He's probably just disappointed that the necro book doesn't just give you a lvl 51 pet and that you potentially have to use up a good amount of dots each time just to get max. Mage staff doesn't work any differently, just easier(cheaper) to get max.
