In fact Putin is able to get rid of old military technology and have a reason to build up his military even more. His troops are getting training, and so far they have gained a fair amount of territory.

I’m not happy about that either. I think Putin is extremely selfish for doing what he did, but that’s what happens when you have a political system that demonizes and imprisons its political opponents - you don’t end up with any one talking you out of an idiotic idea. And that’s exactly what democrats and establishments republicans are doing to trump, trying to imprison him for bullshit charges that to this day haven’t held water.

yeah the western sanctions don't really do too much when china, iran, brazil, india and many more nations will still do business for russia

and they are getting crazy discounts on oil, like 20 less per barrel than the real world pays.

russian oligarchs don't give a shit if their yachts and overseas assets are seized or frozen, this is a small fraction of what is basically play money.

these people have plenty of assets in other parts of the world, and russia is a big enough country to function without global access.

western people have forgotten that it's possible to live without a smartphone built into your refrigerator

they're so fuckin soft in the west that people are like, "GAP, Mcdonalds and starbucks won't do business in russia, that means russia is a dying economy"

It’s just posturing and with trump it seems to work. So for instance, he tells NK that he’s going to blow them to the fucking moon and then a couple months later he’s shaking hands with Kim Jung Rocket Man.

With Russia, I think that they deeply respected Trump and didn’t want to get on his bad side, because Trump is very unpredictable.

Trump is extremely good at negotiating from a position of power and getting his adversaries to come to the table on terms that Trump wants.

you fail to understand that the russian federation's economy is a planned and ordered function of less than 100 people.

whatever shortcomings need to be addressed are easily done so by shifting assets

TGB is right, every piece of ancient soviet-era tech that is destroyed in ukraine is a reason to tell their citizens that they need to sacrifice to build more modern stuff.

The western world looks at russia and sees white people and thinks that their motivations would be the same, this is patently false. The russian people may as well be a different race. They do not view history the same way we do, they do not hold the same values that we do, their outlook and opinion of the modern world is vastly different from what we know reality to be.
