CALLING ALL NECROS!

I'm doing an episode of the podcast soon, all about Necros.

If you have any hints, tips, strategies or tactics that you use, why not share?
You can post them here and I'll read them on the show, or you can leave a voicemail or even book yourself in for a chat. Check the sig for details.

Let's have all those necromantic hints and tip!

p.s. Joe (who's on a future episode) was saying he is the main puller in a group as a necro - what do you think of that?

- Necros group heal extremely well. This is often overlooked by new players.

- You can glitch through locked doors with clever use of skelly illusion / stalking probe / shadowstep.

- Learn to love charming undead early. The best time to do this is at level 34. Go to Kaesora. You can stay here til 40+ and get the piece for your HS key. Charm a mob, send it in, root everything else, break charm right before pet dies, finish with a tap, charm another mob. Kaesora is far more forgiving to learn charming tactics and you'll be a master by the time you hit CoM / HS.

- If you're weaponizing a dedicated undead charm pet, you can FD and let it heal up to full if you have no cleric to CH it.

- Always have DA and FD on your bar. Always.

- Don't bother getting your epic. Just get VP keyed and get a Druushk staff.

In regards to epic, I seem to remember someone saying ring 10 is like 100x better for end gamers?

Some epics you get for a huge power spike (shaman, rogue, monk, etc), some epics you get because you just want to get epic'd

Being the puller in a group is the best role you can fill assuming you can't charm because the only other thing you can do is twitch / heal. There's rly nothing special about being the puller in an xp group because ppl don't split unless they're farming named.

Toxigen probably said all there is to say about necros rly.
Too many necros use dots in groups for dps and this is stupid because mobs don't live long enough. Poison line probably the only exception.

Gear for sta/ac so you can use your health as a resource better for liching and also tap tanking.

Ring 10 is much bigger upgrade for a necro than their epic is.

Roll iksar if you think eq is a hard game.

Ppl think they're underrated but honestly they're par for the course. They can heal in xp groups well enough and they should charm anytime they can. But they're main strength is being afk and farming greens with their pet

A necro + bard is all you need to heal 95% of normal XP groups.

enjchanter 01-10-2024 03:37 PM

Even you have slow you probably don't even need more than a fungi to heal an xp group

I can't imagine a situation where you actually have to choose between ring 10 or necro epic

But having a character you like playing and not getting it an epic is mega fail

I got an epic on my necro at 50 and it's actually a very nice leveling toy, though vp staff is both easier to get and way better. The main benefit is that the epic is 1h and both vp staves are 2h, even though one is clearly supposed to be 1h since it has half the stats. It's easy to overlook and not really a mechanical advantage but it's just straight up annoying to swap 2h/dw, so its nice that the epic isn't fucked up like that.

In HS it makes for a very capable safety tool to snare everything after you root it while charm killing, since there's lots of space there and the mobs aren't very resistant. Obviously you're only going to get it at a low-ish level when you have a main feeding you plat and dkp though.

When grouping I've mostly just been keeping a charmed hasted pet. Clicky haste velious pants are very useful for that. If you keep a hasted charm pet around and occasionally cast a CC spell that in my experience has been enough to be very welcome in a group. You're not an enchanter, but most classes aren't, and as long as you can charm you're going to be a sick group member imo.

I duo with enchanters really well, since you can benefit from the enchanter's tash, have up to 2 DAs to DA hold shit while pulling for an AE mez, and the enchanter benefits from necro heals a lot. It's great XP churning.
