Crashing sometimes at login screen
If I log in, everything works fine. However, when I switch characters, there's a 50/50 chance that I'll crash to the desktop. It's really frustrating to switch characters or even log out without crashing.
Any ideas on how to fix this? |
In your EQ folder is eqgame.exe, go to the properties of this file and set the compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2 or SP3
Then load the game like you normally do |
Thank you, I've made the suggested change and will see if it resolves.
I'm curious, why did it wipe out my UI? Had to re-build all my hotkeys, UI, etc which didn't take too long, but curious why turning on compatability mode would lose my UI settings. |
When EQ is installed in a directory where it doesnt have write permissions (i.e. Program Files) then it writes files to the AppData directory. If you did something to correct this which allowed EQ to write to its own folder that would likely be the cause (Wouldnt think just changing the compatibility mode would do this)
Did you move the EQ folder outside of Program Files or maybe select the box to run the program as admin? Either way, good to have it working like this for the future. Makes it far easier to find files like logs/screenshots/char files/config files etc |
unfortunately I'm still crashing at login screen

https://wiki.project1999.com/Tech_Support has a lot of crash-fixing ideas, and one in particular ("Problem: Error/Crash When Logging In: "The instruction at 0x029110ce referenced memory at 0xfffffffc. The memory could not be read"") might be relevant, as it's specifically for login crashes.
