Charming and killing pet first

Sometimes I’ll be charming and my pet is doing too much damage to the mob to be able to kill them first. So at the end of the fight I’ll drop charm and switch my pet to be the mob with low health. This way I can slow the non pet or haste my pet. Only problem is once they both get down within nuke range and I drop charm again, I’m not sure which pet to kill first. My old pet which did the majority of damage as a pet, or my new pet which was my pet most recently.

Thanks

I could be wrong but I think the act of breaking charm resets everything and you are free to kill whichever one you prefer. But I could be wrong!

Yes, when charm breaks, the damage history is reset. So it's easy! Finish off whichever!

You can tell because if someone comes and tries to "help" you by finishing the mob, they'll accidentally kill-steal it.

Wait so even during a standard charm where everything goes smoothly and both my pet and the mob are at 1%, I can charm break, kill the mob first and the pet 2nd and I will still get max xp? I though you have to kill your pet first.

Yes!

Kill order doesn't matter once charm breaks, both of the mobs are effectively at 100% hp again even though they might actually only have 75 hp left. To get full exp you just gotta do 51% of whatever they got left after charm break to get full exp.

Charm breaks, summoned pets getting reclaimed or dying, or the primary damage dealer logging off or FD'ing, are all similar in that the damage done is effectively erased. Bread and butter from magician solo exping and a common monk/necro PL method.

Yeah kill order doesn't matter.

FWIW: if you're solo its not really worth hasting your pet unless you have to kill a named spawn or something. Too much potential damage taken on charm breaks. Save your weaponized / hasted pets for cleric duos and groups.

If your pet is losing, just use a light-duty slow on its target. If your pet is winning, spam the pet /sit command and that will cause it to take max dmg hits.

Once you're really confident, send pets into big packs of mobs then root them all in a big clump. Your pet will die very quickly, break, finish, charm the next mob in the root-cluster, and do it over again.

This is especially effective once you get into HS (mob harm touches, etc).

I think they call this reverse charming (I heard some YouTuber call it this). Where you charm the mob or npc you want to kill I frequently do this once I realize I got a weak pet and then just use mesmerize or memblur if needed on the other mob who was wexking him you can tell when it worked because the mob will start regenerating hp really fast

Prob a little easier with dark elf because I can just tell pet to back off after rooting or mezzing the bad guy and mash hide until ip harm breaks
