Real life skills you learned from playing EverQuest.

There was a mysterious noise in my garage.

I remembered how I would find rare open world spawns with a stop watch to narrow down respawn times.

So I did that to find the mysterious noise and found a malfunctioning flash light!

Some other things I used to think reminded me of eq were:

Hunting: pvp reminds me of hunting. Stalking, waiting, (waiting forever).
Dating: going to the dungeon (bar) and hoping for a rare spawn (girl) to appear.

What real life activity(s) have you thought, "Hey this is just like EverQuest...!" ?

I learned to be patient and nice with others of lesser skills. While still utilizing their efforts.

I was 12 when I started so the only thing that really stands out in my mind is like a random vocabulary word that would come up in class and being the only kid who knew it because of the game. wish i could remember wtf the actual word was, Erudite maybe.

Typing.... Playing EQ in junior high, taught me to naturally learn how to type without ever needing to try. And it has really come in handy as a skill i wouldn't have, without playing EQ for those couple of years.

However i'm not sure i'm responding to this thread correctly haha. The subject says real life skills, but your last sentence says real life activities "Just like everquest". So i'm going with the skills part...

Urgent text chat elements are so important to developing modern adult life skills.

Everquest trained me far better than Mavis Beacon ever could (though MB did a good job of showing me the basics). These days the kids playing stuff like Roblox with mouse and keyboard have a hyuge touchtype advantage. But will PC style keyboards still be relevant in a decades time?

Personally I learned first aid / medivac from EQ.

/ooc “has anyone got a cleric” so much less effective than sending direct tells. Likewise “someone phone an ambulance” does not compare to “YOU! Phone an ambulance”.

Unironically.

I choose to study finance in college and pursue a career in finance because when it came time to decide on a career path I thought about what I enjoyed and back then video gaming wasn't really a viable profession. I always enjoyed tunnel questing and had a lot of success buying low and selling high and making money to self twink my character when I was a kid. Now I get to tunnel quest in real life too.

I was at a horrific accident and I kept pointing at people and asking, "ARE YOU LOOKING FOR GROUP?"

:D
