Memory Could Not Be Read - FAQ Solution Not Working
I'm a little stumped on this, after P99 green running smoothly for months on a new PC, suddenly it takes me 5 to 10 tries to get to the character login screen.
Every time I select P99 green and hit "play Everquest" I get a windows application error. I found the ini file, updated per the FAQ, it changed the resolution, but the problem persists (even crashes on the smaller resolution after updating via ini file). Anyone have this problem and solve it? I'm on windows 11... as far as I know nothing changed on the device to cause this (no driver updates, etc). |
I'll update this as maybe it will help someone else. I have the most bizarre solution to this problem, as long as I open any number of other programs and let them run, the problem doesn't happen. Example: If I open OBS Studio (streaming software), then launch the game, no problem. If EVE Online is running in the background, no problems. If I'm ONLY opening p99, crashes 100% of the time.
I have a lot of ram in my PC (64GB), I wonder if this somehow is related. Hope this helps at least one person out there! |
When you start EQ and are at the login screen, open task manager and try setting eqgame.exe to efficiency mode. One of my boxes needs this set otherwise the core eq is running on might clock itself higher than the 4.2GHz cutoff.

This particular solution did not solve my issue, to this day the only way I can get P99 to open is to load up background programs. I guess thankfully it's an easy workaround, just bizarre. |
Just to double-check: are you running EQ in admin mode?
