Why did these things more than double in price so fast?

Because there were so many obnoxious naysayers talking about how Manastone prices would plummet in Kunark that the entire server conspired to make them look like idiots.

My guess would be a rarity thing. Most people who have them, have enough money and nothing to buy that they have no reason to sell them. Also, with the high turn over rate on this server, a vast majority of them are probably rotting away on inactive accounts.
