Feb2001 - Coldain Ring #9 Quest

The quest for Coldain Ring #9 was added in Feb. 21, 2001 patch.

The telescope has the +5 int restored. The bug was that it was put in the ammo slot as it could accidently be fired (eep!!)

As far as the quests, the ninth coldain quest is in (that is why we were at work so late last night)

I'm not sure about the rest of the quest honestly

As far as threads, let me revisit them after the patch, I've been fighting this cold so I've not been as diligent as I could be with them. Also please bear with me as we move this weekend also (eepers!!!)

I'm unsure what triggers his script. May need to flag one or both of the following:
- Trade-in of Ring #8
- The prompt "I will accept this task"

Rodrick Tardok in Eastern Wastes

He is involved in the Ring #6 quest and drops his head and the dirk prior to the Feb2001 patch. No changes needed.

Good thinking shorty, time to be apprehensive. We couldn't keep the pet healed. He boxed our tank into a greasy pool of fat. Double dotted him for approximately 400 total dmg. He was down 75% health when we knew we had to gate. It was a feeble attempt, but we were hoping by chance that he was weaker, and similar in faction to smugglers in HighPass or Iksar Pariahs in Kunark.
Cave entrance should be Northeast East of the Labyrinth of Velketor entrance. I might add, this cave is west and down the cliff from and empty and extensive cave. Perhaps the empty cave will be populated in future patches, but I even cast See Invisible on myself to assure, there was nothing there. Pulled to the empty caves for about 3 hours, nothing popped. Good place for a slumber party. If you kill the Coldain Smuggler, drop in and let us know what faction he gives.

The directions are a little off, but I believe the "empty and extensive cave" is describing where Murdrick's group of dwarves would spawn. The Smuggler's cave is actually east and down the cliff from Murdrick's cave, but there is no cave west and down the cliff from Murdrick's.

The Coldain Smuggler is missing from P99. I'm not sure if he's present on Live, but Allakhazam still has a page for him.

Okay in Bear 1 (northmost of the 3 bear caves next to VLab zone) there is an NPC named "Coldain Smuggler" who does not respond to hails nor does he aggro.

As he's Coldain, I want to assume that his faction is tied in to Thurg (don't want to mess up THAT faction!), but he IS a smuggler.... which, on the mainland, killing smugglers and bandits is usually a GOOD thing.... sooooooo....

Has anybody killed this guy? If so, what are the faction hits/gains?

If he is a quest NPC, then what quest is he related to? Any help appreciated, thanks.

While roaming in GD, I ran across the Coldain Smuggler. I was invis and he coned even to me. I am druid of the 40th season. I hit him for over 1500hps of damage and only took 1/3 of his health. I spent the next 20 minutes kitting him around GD but when his health hit about 20%, he just poofed on me. I checked his spawn location but he didn't return. I don't know why or where he went, but needless to say I didn't get to kill him.

In the Eastern Wastes there is a Coldain Camp in the Northwest corner.(near the Prison) 5 new Coldain have been added to the camp. I have worked VERY HARD to get my Coldain Faction up to Warmly. I had been warmly to ALL coldain even in wolfform for quite some time now. I MED at the aforementioned Coldain Camp. Tonight I logged in and headed to my favorite spot to med only to sit down and have 5 Coldain Guards and 1 Captain run out of the hut (they have never been there before) and KOS me. Course the regular Coldain that have always been in the camp didn't bother with me since I am still warm to them. What Gives VI? I work my butt off to get my faction up and then you go and install 5 level 50 Guards into a camp that aren't on the same faction during that last patch? Makes no sense. 5 Cooks, hunters etc etc that I am warm to and then 5 New Guards and a Captain that will KOS me as a present?

Anyhow I came back to the camp without wolf and am still KOS. No longer able to go to that Coldain camp I have been using for 2 months now as a Med spot. The 5 regular coldain in that camp still con Warmly to me. But the 5 Guards hidden in the Hut will drop you like a Frozen Wing Fly.

Those KOS dwarves in the NW part of EW appear to be part of the new 9th step of the Coldain Ring quest, which requires you to hunt down some dwarf traitors. Hence the reason they are not on standard dwarf faction.

There are changes brewing in EW, which I experienced first hand the other night.

Going to help friends kill Coldain, we went to teh Drummon Coldshanks camp. Lo and behold, Drummon is no longer there! In his hut are 4 bodyguards and a captain, all BLUE to me at 54!
...

It reads as if Capt Berradin and his bodyguards replace Drummon Coldshanks in the hut, but the "5 Cooks, hunters etc" outside remain.

Invised and went into the giant fortress to the hut containing Fjlorean and off to his right was a halfing/gnome/dwarf (short race) called Ferrin Ambersnow (or something... not sure of first name). im a 47 half elf agnostic bard she conned dubious and red, but then again ive whacked quite a few of the gaints. any one know who/what she is for? ive been to this hut numerous times to single out the named guy and have not seen her b4. im gona go back n try pulling one of the giants to saee what she does... could be risky, her being red n all, but heh gota try these things out.

The name is Peffen Ambersnow. When you hail her, she "gasps and turns towards you", and then says something like Umm... thank you, for saving me from these bloody Kromrif... they were going to, uh, torture me! How can I ever repay you?"

When you continue to search for a quest trigger, there is nothing.

She's Coldain, by the way, but yes, all the ugly really really short guys look the same (But not Wood Elves!)

In any event... there's what I know. Our group was in the mid to high 40's, she conned red to us all.

Doldigun Steinweilder in Kael Drakkel

Doldigun is a triggered spawn, so the prompt at the Iceshard Manor throne would need flagged: "The Dain shall be slain for the peace we must obtain."

Councilor Juliash Lockhear in Icewell Keep

Giving her the Ring of the Coldain Council obtained from Doldigun causes her to respawn. I believe this triggered version is the only one which can drop her head. If so, then no action is needed. The normal spawn of Juliash existed prior to the patch.
