Wanting to play after 1 yr of loading: Error message

Heya all :)

I apologize profusely if this is in the wrong place. I played eq original many years ago. A year ago I found project 1999 and purchased the titianium. I had everything set up. I made an account, but never did anything with it. I think I thought, most of the people are going to be the old time hardcore players who know everything and I would just be a total newbie in everyone's hair.

Well, a year later, I loaded it up tonight, to check it out, wanting a game to get back into and have some fun (i hope). However, it says on the char screen:

Your Spells file is outdated, please visit project1999.org for details. However, I can find nothing? I am not greatly computer savvy and was quite proud I got all of this to work to begin with. But now I am at a loss.

I don't know what to do? If someone could point me in the right direction?

Also, is it worth me trying? I don't remember much of EQ, it was goodness so many years ago. I did enjoy it and wanting to play a bard again - but like I said, it was sooo long ago.

Thanks in advance :)

EDIT:
I am still looking through various threads with the subject lines of updating spell files. However, all I am finding are thread with individuals who have updated them and are having problems. I am seeking the step by step directions for doling this, and anything else that I may need to update since I have created this account a year ago (if there is other things that need updating besides spell files).

.. Continuing to plug along

Welcome back, Eraya. =)

I'd try using Druxa's nifty tool to help get all of your files updated correctly. You do have to download his file and install it, but it's safe to do so. You can pick and choose what options you want install / fix / correct! #13 is the one that will fix your outdated files.

Thank you Zereh!

I am going to go check it out now. Hopefully I can get t his squared away :) I am really wanting something for fun on the side for break, and I think I need to just try out old time eq again and just see how it goes.

Hopefully this does the trick, off I go :)

By the way, 1999 is one server, right? Not a name broken down into subservers?

Do you know by chance which directory this goes into, because it is saying the folder does not exist. I will try a few things in the interim :)

There are several servers available for you to choose from once you log on, but there is only one version of Project 1999. There are rumors of a PvP version of P99 being created but it doesn't exist yet.

Install the game into your C: directory (not c:\programfiles\...) to avoid permissions issues.

Eraya 08-21-2011 02:33 AM

Hmm, Well I already have the game installed (somewhere) because I am able to load it up just get stuck at char screen due to spell files being out of date.

Or do you mean to install this Duxa to my c: directory?

Zereh 08-21-2011 02:39 AM

Druxa can be ran from where ever. Don't move your EQ game files if you don't have to!

(But if you do end up with permissions problems, they are usually fixed by moving them into C:.)

haha

Hmm ok.. Well it iddint like wherever ti had as default, it kept saying this is not an Everquest folder. So I navigated to: C:prgramfiles/x86/Sony/Everquest

It said it was successful. But now, nothing has happened? Do I just load up the game?

I guess we shall find out! lol :)

Eraya 08-21-2011 02:46 AM

Oh it worked! I am now getting no errors. I guess I was waiting for a screen or something to pop up like a wizard :) Who knew such magic could happen now so quickly!
