Because the server has a population of around 150 right now, which is less than OT or Gfay had back in the day. The chat channels DO NOT GET USED because people are too spread out.

Do it. I don't care if there are asshats in it. There are also asshats in zone OOC. There was a poll in favor of turning it on. I want that social aspect to actually exist, or yes, this server really is going to be death to any casual/solo player starting up. EQ is not supposed to be a silent solo experience until you reach level 40, and the /auction channel is supposed to actually get used.
