Racial hide never fail
 

I remember racial skill in hide was base 50.

I'm a dark elf.

It fails.

As a halfling I can tell you that it does indeed fail. The problem is that it always gives a success message - even when it fails. You got to have an NPC targeted - that isn't indifferent - to check it. The same goes for sneak btw. Kind of annoying, but don't remember if it was like this back in 1999, as I didn't play a class with innate hide/sneak then.
