Treants kicking my butt
I just hit 29 and decided to give the treants a try. I seem to kill the lower level ones np but every 3 kills i get a really hard one where i will have 75 health and the mob about 10-15 and he starts healing himself next thing i know im getting wrecked by the dot and his knockback nuke.
I fully buff myself including haste, magic and fire resist, i have a poison wind censor (thanks franswa going away party). i pull with slow, send a pet in (having charmed animal helps a bit) put my envenomed breath on and go to work. If i miss 1 slam it seems to go downhill. I was trying to nuke him when he was at low health but 2 times i got the message my spell landed yet no damage was dealth not sure if this is a bug or not because it worked on some of them. Anyway any advice would help, i wanted to farm these guys for a bit but not sure if i suck or i should find something else for a couple of levels. PS if any clerics near south karana i could use a rez, i can donate. |
This is one of the things I can't stand about EQ.
A consider system that isn't consistent. i.e. undercon mobs. |
Caster mobs on p1999 cast level appropriate spells.. on live they would cast lower level spells.

and this makes p99 "classic" how? |
Well im not one to quit im back at em, my nukes gave me a message like before and actually landed this time, seems hte trick is to chain cast nuke as soon as he is low health and starts healing himself, hope this strat keeps up.

Is there already a bug thread about this?
We could like... totally post in it with some nerd rage and give it renewed visibility? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...s/432217dd.png |
In my opinion, treants are too hard for the exp you get (unless you're fear-kiting or something that mostly prevents them from casting). And their loot isn't especially great either.
At your level, I'd recommend you try High Keep guards or the Millers/guards camp in Qeynos Hills. |
Yeah, casters are almost always more trouble than they are worth, ESPECIALLY as a shaman. Your solo strength lies in medding while a rooted mob dies to your dots (or in tanking+meleeing a slowed NPC). But caster NPCs don't let you do that.
I mean, I guess you might be able to make it work with some fancy footwork. Root at max range, backup a step quick to outrange the treant's spell, step forward to stick a dot, repeat, etc. But you'll almost certainly still get spells sticking on you, and it is very not cool to get snared or rooted. |
