Actually just tried it today. Unfortunately it deleted "mss32.dll", and it wouldn't even start without it. So I replaced the file from my original, but then it crashed after the loading screen (with no message).

So, it seems it's being it bit too aggressive in what it deletes.

Is there a list of contents not needed in the EQ directory? I'm running EQ on mac using wine and fear trying to copy directories over or anything like that. I would like to remove files not needed. Thanks.

Just got this running from a 2Gb ramdisk today and it is sweet fast :)

Using the manual method you could also take out Jaggedpine Forest and Tenebrous Mountains, hey?
