Caster Research

Yes, its a patch gripe :D

My 33 necro invested a lot of time/effort (and training points to an extent) in getting his research up to 118. Just logged in and it's been capped at 90 now... or at least that's what the UI is showing. Is it still 118 or did I waste a bunch of training points? :(

Probably bugged. Don't count on them reimbursing your skill points, either. Happened to me back in the day, and they said I was SOL.

Sorry for your loss :T

My level 32 was at 141. :(

When I lose a level, my skill caps go down to what that level allows. When I level back up, my skill is immediately fully trained again. Maybe this works the same?

Mine is still 170. =/

Dunno what to tell you guys

Yondiloons 04-22-2012 01:54 PM

it may go up in skill when you level like previously mentioned, but I'm pretty sure tradeskills shouldnt be capped at level. Im pretty sure you used to be able to level tradeskills to any level no matter what the players level is, even at level 1

phobus 04-22-2012 03:39 PM

Given that the skill level shows up as red in my UI, I'm pretty sure the skill points aren't really "lost".

Alchemy has always been a level-capped tradeskill. I do not recall Research being level-capped though.

I don't think you lost the points, you're just capped until you level. You will gain those skill points back (hopefully heh). Use the formula below to calculate your current skill.

This was posted over at EQClassic.org:

Quote:

Originally research skill was based on:

(Level - 15) x 5 = Max Skill allowable

However, once you reached level 16 (the required level for research) you could train in Research and be granted 16 points for that first "train". After that, you wouldn't be able to level up research until level 19.

You wouldn't be able to trivialize a spell required at level 16 until you reached level 22. By that point you'd already have better spells available (or at least new pets). I've listed the trivial points below:

Level 16 Spells - Trivial at 26.
Level 20 Spells - Trivial at 46.
Level 24 Spells - Trivial at 71.
Level 29 Spells - Trivial at 96.
Level 34 Spells - Trivial at 120.
Level 39 Spells - Trivial at 140.
Level 44 Spells - Trivial at 166.
Level 49 Spells - Trivial at 184.
I'm gonna miss selling enchanter spells as a low level =/

Also, this is lame. Not sure if this is exactly how it works here now.

Quote:

Level 16 Spells - Trivial at 26. Cap at lvl 16 = 5
Level 20 Spells - Trivial at 46. Cap at lvl 20 = 25
Level 24 Spells - Trivial at 71. Cap at lvl 24 = 45
Level 29 Spells - Trivial at 96. Cap at lvl 29 = 70
Level 34 Spells - Trivial at 120. Cap at lvl 34 = 95
Level 39 Spells - Trivial at 140. Cap at lvl 39 = 120
Level 44 Spells - Trivial at 166. Cap at lvl 44 = 145
Level 49 Spells - Trivial at 184. Cap at lvl 49 = 170
