Girlfriend Going to Try P1999 - Thoughts on a Class?
 

My girlfriend will be trying EQ (and video games in general) for the first time soon and I've been trying to find a class to steer her towards that wouldn't be overwhelming but at the same time compliment my ranger since I assume we'll be duoing a bit. When I gave her the list of classes, she picked out a chanter but I think a chanter might be a bit more for a starter toon. So far I've come up with:

- Paladin: Plate for survivability, LoH, rezzes later on, fairly intuitive, can do some light PLing.
- Monk: FD, Mend, good damage output, again can PL at the lower levels. (FD pulling might be a bit much though)
- Necro: Easy.
- Bard: Useful, nice utility, can probably AoE kite with some instruction.

What do you guys think? Anyone have any prior experience with something like this?

shaman would be able to buff all of your attributes, heal you, haste you, and she will have a pet, which girls love.

also, don't play a ranger.

Wow, we had a GM Shiftin on Bristlebane back in the day. This is only the second time I've seen a character with that name. So weird! ;p Brought me back haha

Make her play a druid, so she can transform herself into a super cute wolf <3 Most importantly, its a class that benefits from twinking (a bit), and at the same time has complete solo capabilities!

On the other hand, if she is COMPLETELY new to games, you should probably give her one of the melee classes. Because spell casting can be arduous (not hard necessarily) for a completely new player. Monks, rogues and the like are a decent bet.

I like how people in this thread are essentializing women as all liking cutesy things.

If you're playing a ranger, she should play a necro. It's a fun class that can be involving, and is great at soloing and duoing. It duos better with a ranger than any of the other classes on your list.

Or if she thought she'd like playing a chanter, maybe she should just play a chanter. They're really not that complicated and you can even fear kite with her if you're playing a ranger.

Have you ever tried to get a girlfriend to try an MMO for the first time?

My girlfriend is not a gamer, and EQ was the first game she ever played. I would tend to think that enchanters are very complex class that has a lot of group responsibilty. She really enjoyed playing a Druid because of the utility, ports, and ability to help other players. She liked the idea of being a wood elf because it was like the LoTR movies.

But if she want to play an enchanter, she should. Just make sure that she realizes it's a bit tougher learning curve for that class.

My girlfriend had (has) zero experience with games, let alone mmorpgs lol. I remember when I was teaching her how to move my characters around in different MMOs, she was absolutely beaming. (You feel your life drain away)

This sounds like her. She's really big on elves, LoTR, and all that stuff. I think I might suggest the druid to her when she gets home.

I feel the same way about a chanter. My brother played one back on live and it looked pretty intense at times.

Monk sounds pretty solid for melee. Anyone know what it's like gearing one up? Have a few thousand plat sitting in the bank atm.
