look on the wiki page for each class, it will tell you what the total xp penalty is for each race/class combination

edit: might as well post it here

  • Dark Elf Shadow Knight: -40%
  • Erudite Shadow Knight: -40%
  • Human Shadow Knight: -40%
  • Iksar Shadow Knight: -68%
  • Ogre Shadow Knight: -61%
  • Troll Shadow Knight: -68%

Start reading where that takes you and read down until you get to the stuff about vendor prices and charisma.

Find your race/class combo then look at the REQ XP MOD column, that is the class/race xp modifier.

If you want to roll IKS/SK then you will have 168% of the xp over a human cleric at any particular level.

If you roll HLF/ROG then you only require 86.45% of the xp a human cleric would need at any particular level.

If the MOD = 1, then you level normally.
If the MOD < 1, then you need less xp to level.
If the MOD > 1, then you require more xp to level.

Just be aware that as a Troll/Iksar SK (if you're picking one) you'll get some grief and people turning you down as a tank because you'll "slow the group's XP down". Such people are scumbags in my experience but they can be found on the server :(

Penalties are multiplicative. For example, troll/iksar have 20% penalty (1.2) and SK has 40% penalty (1.4), so the total penalty for troll/iksar SK is 1.2*1.4=1.68 or 68% more than "normal". A 5% bonus would be a multiplier of 0.95. Just do the math.

As far as race choice, the real issue is when races have special abilities that can't be compensated for with gear. These are slam (barbarians, troll and ogres), double regen (troll and iksar), racial hide (dark elf and halfling), racial sneak (halfling), frontal stun immunity (ogre) and increased AC (iksar).
